Hawkley (112 all out) lost to Binsted (116 for 7)

Played at Hawkley on Sunday 30th July 2017

Binsted won the toss and put Hawkley in to bat on a pitch damp from overnight rain.  Aaron Stewart and Ed Peel opened the batting in positive style however both were caught in the deep for 13 and 12, undone by the pitch’s uneven bounce and pace. Liam Lloyd dug in while at the other end several batsmen came and went without troubling the scorer. Viv Evans joined Lloyd in a stand which added some respectability and after Lloyd was caught and bowled for 20 Paul Gray added a rapid 17 runs.  Hawkley’s innings ended in a flurry of wickets, Evans posting a face-saving 37 runs out of Hawkley’s below-par total of 112.

Binsted had half an hour to face before tea, which they negotiated cautiously for the loss of Johnson, well caught by Ed Peel who used every inch of his six foot nine frame to grab a high chance off the bowling of Nick Hudson.  Resuming after the break, Binsted batsman Hinshelwood hit a flurry of boundaries while partners came and went.  Gray, Stewart and Peel took a wicket apiece while Hinshelwood survived two dropped catches in the deep and a confidant appeal for caught behind to reach his half century.  Hawkley scented an unlikely victory as skipper Hallam Brown took three quick wickets to leave Binsted seven wickets down, however Hinshelwood saw the visitors home finishing on 71 not out which included five sixes and seven fours.
