Hawkley (163 for 9) lost to Viv Evans XI (167 for 6)

Played at Hawkley on Sunday 27th August 2017

In a highlight of their season, Hawkley each year play a team of past and present local cricketers lead by Empshott farmer Viv Evans.

Hawkley batted first and lost three quick wickets: Paul Cross however stood firm and rebuilt the innings supported by Clive Hopkin, taking the score to 84 before Hopkin fell for 27.  Cross reached his half century before falling to the bowling of Parker, and the innings finished with a flourish as John Marden (37 not out) and Tom Wallace (16 not out) hit out in the closing overs to take the score to a competitive 163.

The Viv Evans team lost their eponymous captain early on, however Angus Rowan-Hamilton was in fine form and stroked ten fours and two sixes on his way to a score of 63.  Tom Thomas took three quick wickets, however Edmund Peel joined Rowan-Hamilton’s boundary-hitting spree and thereafter the result was never in doubt.  Peel reached his 50 with a final boundary as the Evans XI won by four wickets with ten overs to spare.
