Hawkley accepted the visitor’s challenge to play the game in the format of a 10 over first innings followed by a 32 over second innings. Batting first, the All Stars scored 70 for three in their ten overs. In reply, Hawkley posted 86 for one, Nick Todd scoring 36 and Chris Huntley 32.
In their second innings the All Stars mustered 174 for 8, with Todd and Huntley again being the stand-out performers for Hawkley. Todd bowled with excellent economy to finish with 1 for 11 off six overs, and Huntley bowled with real pace and menace for figures of 2 for 36. The young left-armer improves with every outing, and his figures suffered unduly from the number of edges he induced over the slips.
Hawkley were left to chase 158 taking into account their first innings lead. After the openers departed cheaply, Chris Tanner weighed in with a useful 25 after which the Hawkley innings slowed down and the required run rate climbed to nine an over. Finally the fall of the eighth wicket brought the ever-willing Todd back to the crease and he proceeded to bludgeon the attack to all corners of the ground before departing in the last over for an excellent 33, leaving last man Maclean the unenviable and ultimately unsuccessful task of scoring a six off the last ball.
