Hawkley travelled to the picturesque coastal ground of Itchenor Park on a grey afternoon marked by a fine drizzle which never quite became steady enough to interrupt play. Hawkley lost the toss and were invited to bat, and their innings proved to be a game of two halves.   One half of the team settled quickly at the crease and scored freely, the other contrived to gift Bosham a succession of first-ball ducks.

Opener Chris Head was certainly in the former camp and played his normal attacking game while notching up an excellent half century, however at the other end Todd and Madeley failed to trouble the scorers.  Hallam Brown, normally noted for his performance with the ball rather than the bat, played some fine shots in a rapid 34 while Kneller and Hudson joined the ducks back in the pavilion. Roger Stride then held the innings together with an unbeaten 50 on his Hawkley debut supported by some aggressive hitting from Batten. Hawkley closed their innings on 185 off 30 overs which was a good performance in the conditions.

Bosham in reply got off to a good start as their younger batsmen scored quickly, however Mullard got the breakthrough and thereafter kept one end tied up with an excellent spell of 1 for 11 off seven overs. Bosham were wobbling badly as Todd ripped through the middle order with a four-wicket burst and thereafter Hawkley bowled tidily as they coasted to victory, Bosham finishing on 120 for six.
