Winning the toss and inviting Hawkley to bat, Hyde Willow opened with some brisk and accurate bowling. After Davis fell LBW in the first over Mullard and Burkie built a useful score before Mullard was bowled for 19. Head and Madeley both kept the score moving without lasting long at the crease, however Batten’s arrival signalled an acceleration in the Hawkley innings as he drove a straight six and a flurry of fours. Both batsmen continued to score freely and a good stand ensued until Burkie was out for 45. Hawkley wickets tumbled in the closing overs and the final score was 160 with Batten undefeated on 67. This was a creditable score against tight bowling: it is noteworthy that every wicket which fell was either bowled or LBW.

Hyde Willow began their innings cautiously against some testing bowling, Huntley inducing several edges which eluded the slip cordon. Hudson finally broke through and thereafter wickets fell regularly to leave Hyde Willow five wickets down and well behind the scoring rate. The visitors rallied and a good stand followed between Bebick and Price which was eventually broken by Brown. Mullard added another wicket leaving Hyde Willow requiring thirty off the last ten overs with three wickets in hand. Yet another close finish looked in prospect, however Burkie took three quick wickets to hand Hawkley victory by 25 runs.
