Hawkley’s opponents were a touring side from Norfolk playing their fourth game in as many days and who were clearly out to enjoy their cricket.
Saxlingham won the toss and batted first. Huntley struck an early blow when Webb looped a catch to slip, and Todd took two quick wickets to leave the visitors three down and struggling. Saxlingham regrouped and a useful stand developed before Parkinson scooped Davis to midwicket where Hudson held his third catch. Barrow and Pearson batted well and built a good score before Batten pinned Barrow LBW and Usmar pulled off a sharp stumping off the bowling of Hallam Brown. Turner and Sheppard then shared an unbeaten stand as Saxlingham finished on 160 for 6.
Opening batsmen McCurrach and Mullard both struck early boundaries as Hawkley began their reply in positive fashion. McCurrach fell on 10 however Mullard continued his positive strokeplay and continued to 31 before offering a catch off Turner. Hawkley lost a couple of quick wickets and were losing momentum when Hudson joined Madeley at the crease. The pair began to rebuild the innings and batted with increased confidence as the runs started to flow. The remaining 90 runs were knocked off with a flourish, Madeley striking a four to win the match and record his personal half century.
