Droxford won the toss and batted first. The visitors started off in confidant style and the first 30 runs came freely until Nick Todd got the breakthrough when he had the free-scoring Reeves caught. Droxford skipper Keitley was then clean bowled by Nick Hudson and thereafter the scoring rate fell. During the middle of the innings Hawkley’s change bowlers kept up the pressure, Peter Lilly in deserving mention for his two wickets. The Droxford innings rallied towards the end as their batsmen took on the slower bowlers, Mark Hibberd in particular taking the brunt of the aggression but picking up the valuable wicket of Droxford top-scorer Bryant. Hallam Brown and Dan Wrenn wrapped up the tail with two wickets apiece as Droxford were all out for 162 with five of their overs remaining.
Hawkley began their reply with skipper Keith Madeley leading from the front. Despite losing Brown and Mullard cheaply, the score mounted steadily. Dinnis batted brightly until bowled by a good ball from Bryant, however it was youngster Dan Wrenn who provided the most effective support to the Hawkley skipper, scoring an attractive and mature 27 not out as Madeley unleashed a flurry of boundaries to finish unbeaten on 80 as Hawkley cruised to victory with twelve overs to spare.
