2011 Chairmans report
2011 chairman’s report.
This season has been a transitional season, both in terms of our facilities and of personnel.
It is great to now be in the completed hall and club, well worth the upheaval at the beginning of the year. More photos and interesting stuff will be going up on the walls in the near future.
I am proud to announce that Hawkley Cricket club won the most improved ground award from Hampshire cricket. Both Charlie Knowles and I went up to collect the award on behalf of the club.
On a sadder note, the club lost Larry Knowles this year. Larry was a true servant to Hawkley Cricket club for so many years and will be sorely missed. Thankfully he got to see the completed hall project which he helped develop.
Regarding the cricket, it was a fantastic effort by the Saturday side, under the captaincy of Nigel Brown, to achieve promotion from NE division 4. We hope their success will continue into next year. The team had a great set of results, losing only 3 out of 16 matches. Well done to all the players who contributed to this effort, and thank you to Richard Kinge for doing the scoring.
The Sunday side fared less well in terms of results, winning only 4 out of their 15 played matches. Thankfully the aim of the Sunday side is to have fun as well as try and win, so hopefully we did better in that department.
Thanks must be given to Keith Madeley and Michael Burkie for captaining the Sunday side, and to Nigel Brown for captaining the Saturday side.
Thank you's also to Charlie Knowles for Ground keeping, working tirelessly week after week, to Doris Knowles and Jilly Haynes for cricket teas, to Nick Hudson for writing cricket reports and to Mark Hibberd for organising the Sunday fixtures.
Hopefully Hawkley Cricket club can continue to play good fun successful cricket throughout next season. We have a lovely group of people in our membership and play on one of the finest grounds in Hampshire, so all is set for another great year.
Thank you all for your support.
